What Types Of Questions Will Be Asked In Your SSI/SSDI Hearing?
At The Law Offices of Steven Gaechter, founding attorney Steven Gaechter wants to make sure all our New Jersey clients are prepared for the questions they may be asked by an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) at their Hearings.
For more than 30 years our SSI/SSDI lawyer has been helping disabled people obtain the benefits they deserve.
Here Is What To Expect From The ALJ At Your SSI/SSDI Hearing
Be prepared to give clear, direct answers. All of these questions are designed to help the ALJ determine if you meet SSA’s definition of disability.
Some questions to anticipate include:
- Basic questions about your background: What is your age, height, weight and education? Where do you live and who lives there with you? Do you have any children or pets? What care do you provide for them? What household chores do you do?
- Questions about your ability to use transportation: Do you drive? If so, how far and how often? If not, how do you get to doctor’s appointments, go shopping or get to the hearing? Can you use public transportation? How far can you walk on your own? Do you use assistive devices? Can you go up and down stairs without any difficulty?
- Questions about your daily activities: Do you go to church or clubs? Do you have hobbies? Has any of this changed due to your disability? What was your life like before your disability? What do you do all day, from the time you get up until the time you go to bed? How long can you sit or concentrate on anything at one time?
- Questions about your disability: What symptoms do you have? What treatments have you tried? How does your disability prevent you from working? Does pain affect you? Do your medications affect your ability to work?
